What is K-Beauty?

If I’ve learned anything from K-Beauty, it’s that if your skincare routine isn’t at least seven steps–you’re doing it wrong. K-Beauty is an all-encompassing term that relates to Korean skincare and beauty with specific emphasis on products that promote dewy, hydrated skin. The level of hype for K-Beauty is REAL, folks. Like K-Pop and K-Drama, the K-Beauty industry has experienced unprecedented growth in the last few years. Who doesn’t love unblemished skin that looks like it’s been Photoshopped?

The K-Beauty aesthetic is simple: youthful and glowing skin; however, the regimen is anything but simple. In addition to washing and moisturizing, K-Beauty enthusiasts double cleanse their skin and use: sheet masks, clay masks, exfoliators, toners, serums, essences, ampoules, concentrated patches, lotions, acids, eye creams, and sunscreen. K-Beauty makeup puts skin front and center, so most products are designed to emphasize the result of having a 10-step skincare routine.

After some research and some much needed pampering, I’ve compiled a list of six trending, must-have K-Beauty products that you need right now.

Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick – $28
By: SU:M37

The Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick is a K-Beauty cult favorite. It travels well, smells like a bouquet of freshly cut roses, and melts impurities away. Paraben and synthetic preservative free, this is a great option for sensitive skin types or for people that like to double cleanse their skin.

Time Revolution Night Repair New Science Activator Ampoule – $49  By: Missha

What’s an ampoule, you ask? Essentially, ampoules are highly concentrated serums with powerhouse ingredients to fix your skin’s problem areas. Missha’s Time Revolution  Ampoule helps give your skin a beautiful, dewy finish with minimal effort. This seemingly magic potion has Bifida Ferment Lysate, a fermented yeast that visibly reduces signs of aging and improves the overall elasticity of skin. Let’s just keep calling it “magic”– it sounds better than “fermented yeast”.

Lip Sleeping Mask – $20  By: Laneige

‘Hydrated’ and ‘healthy’ are staples in the K-Beauty dictionary, and this lip mask is here to help promote both. This popular leave-on lip mask is loaded with antioxidants and Vitamin C to leave your lips feeling supple and moisturized. Just swipe a layer over your lips before bed, and wake up to a luscious pout.

My Little Pet Eye Patch – $8.50  By: TonyMoly

We have yet to find a Korean makeup or beauty brand that didn’t have to die for packaging, and this eye patch set is no exception. These concentrated patches are soaked in good-for-your-skin ingredients such as: green tea extract, niaciamide, and sunflower seed extract. Brighten and moisturize your under eye area in only 15 minutes.

Color Control Cushion Compact – $60  By: AmorePacific

Korean beauty is all about that “no makeup, makeup” look. The more your skin looks like skin, the better. Foundations like this cushion compact give the skin a natural-finish, and also have broad-spectrum SPF to protect skin from exposure to UVA and UVB rays.

Hydro Fitting Snail Mask Sheet – $13.30  By: Skin Food

Yes, snail mucin is an actual ingredient in this sheet mask. If you can get over having slime all over your face, you may be pleasantly surprised with your results. Snail mucin is known to help stimulate the production of elastin and collagen. The snail slime also naturally contains hyaluronic acid which helps skin retain moisture. This mask is a convenient way to soak your skin in all the good stuff.
