Free Money! (Seriously, with Slice’s Price Drop Alerts, that is…)

If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is…but that’s not the case when it comes to Slice’s new Price Drop Alerts!

What’s a Price Drop Alert, you ask? Well, have you ever heard of a Price Adjustment? It’s one of retail’s best-kept secrets. Merchants don’t want you to be afraid to buy something just because you think it will go on sale the next day. So some of them offer price adjustments for recent purchases to give you that added sense of confidence in buying. Then, if you buy something and the price goes down shortly afterwards, you can just call or email the merchant and get the difference refunded. That’s pretty nice, right?

The thing is, you have to know that the item went on sale after you bought it. And how many of us are obsessively checking the price of things we buy after we’ve bought them?  Do I see a hand up in the audience?Get alerts for price adjustments No? Retailers are, of course, counting on the fact that you don’t. Well, my friend, you have an ally in Slice.

Think of Slice as your friend who has nothing to do but hit the “refresh” button on your browser for things you’ve already bought online. If Slice sees that your purchase has dropped in price within an eligible merchant’s price adjustment window, then we’ll ping you and say (if we could speak), “Hey, you bought a Samsung TV last week from Best Buy that’s now $100 less. Why don’t you contact Best Buy to get some money back? And to help you out with that, here’s your receipt, and Best Buy’s customer service email address and phone number.” That’s a good friend, right? Maybe not someone you’d want to sit next to at a dinner party, but definitely someone you’d buy a cup of coffee for, what with you being newly rich and all.

We’ve quietly been rolling this out and we’re happy to announce that now it’s on all our platforms, Web & mobile. And the results have been flooding in! Just this week, in fact, we got an email from a delighted user:

I just saved $35 from Nordstrom thanks to you guys! All I had to do was ask! I got the alert on my iPhone, and it provided the order number and customer service phone number right there for me. It literally took less than 5 minutes on the phone and I got a refund that I hadn’t even known I was eligible for. Hellooo Christmas shopping – thanks Slice! – Karen Boyd, Los Angeles
